How to Use Ice Breaker Questions

How to Use Ice Breaker QuestionsHow to Use Ice Breaker QuestionsNeed a quick, no preparation, ice breaker that works magically to break the ice in a meeting or training session? Highly adaptable and customizable, ice breaker questions pull your participants into talking about the content of your meeting or training session. Your participants are engaged without any struggle on the part of the facilitator. Relate Your Group to the Ice Breaker Questions Ice breaker questions are versatile and easily customized to your meeting or seminar needs. Ice breaker questions are also fun and insightful, depending on the ice breaker question that you use. The joy of ice breaker questions is that you can think about the needs of your group in the back of your mind for days. Suddenly, and youll never know where the inspiration comes from, but the perfect question enters and wont leave your mind. Does this match your experience, too? No pressure, of course, but thinking up an appropriate ice bre aker question is engaging and thought-provoking. Some ice breaker questions work better than others, but if you are willing to give it a shot and try out some questions, youll learn what works for you over time. Youll find the questions that quickly and effectively engage your audience. Try these sample ice breaker questions to break the ice, open the discussion, help participants get to know each other, and set the course for a positive meeting or training experience for your participants. Meeting attendees love ice breaker questions when they are not responsible for implementing the answers. Steps in Using Ice Breaker Questions Divide the meeting participants into groups of four or five people by having them number off. (You do this so that your participants get to know fellow attendees. People generally begin a meeting by sitting with the people they already know best, when your goal is to build a sense of teamwork across a group.)Present your ice breaker question to the grou p.Tell your groups that individual participants can spend five minutes thinking about a response to the proffered ice breaker question. They can jot down an answer to the ice breaker question that you used to open the discussion. After five minutes max, ask participants to share their answer to the ice breaker question with their group. Tell them that the purpose of the question is to spark discussion and commentary. This ice breaker question helps the group of people explore their thoughts on a common issue. This ice breaker is a perfect segue into the topic of the meeting or training class. This ice breaker question sparks spontaneous conversation in every group as no answers are right or wrong. The ice breaker question encourages participants to share their opinions in a non-threatening activity. Two readers have reported using the ice breaker question, Whats rocking your world today? Both said the ice breaker question generated several hours of great discussion. After completion of the initial spontaneous discussion in the small groups, ask the participants to share their thoughts with the larger group. Ask for a volunteer to start, and then, ask each participant to share something. If you have no volunteers, and this would be unusual after all of the engaging conversation, elicit each comment with, Hey Sally, whats rocking your world today? (Even your most quiet participants were comfortable sharing a thought.)Next, after the participants have listened to the comments from the larger group, ask them to explore several add-on questions. Your opportunity for follow-up questions is endless. These debriefing questions can further support the content of your training class or meeting. Because participants are your contributors to the laughter and fun, each of these steps generates remarks, insights, ah-has, and examples.Upon completion, move into the rest of the material you have prepared for the session. This ice breaker question activity, depending on the que stion selected, can take 30 minutes with the initial enthusiastic, unstructured discussion that the ice breaker generates. The total time used will depend on the question. As shared earlier, two readers who used this ice breaker said that they had allowed up to two hours for the full discussion that their ice breaker question generated. You can cover a more trivial ice breaker question in 15 minutes by leaving out the debrief with the large group. Keep in mind, though, that humans are nosy and curious. Your participants will always enjoy hearing what everyone else said. Depending on your topic and the needs of your group, the ice breaker question can be the focus of the meeting, based on its importance for what the group wishes to accomplish by the meeting. Recommended Ice Breaker Questions for Meetings and Work These are sample questions that you can use to start out your meeting, retreat, or training class. In the right circumstances, you can use the ice breaker question for t he primary focus or content of your meeting. Elon Musk says we will have self driving cars as early as next year

Elon Musk says we will have self driving cars as early as next yearElon Musk says we will have self driving cars as early as next yearAn interview conducted with a 24-year-old Elon Musk back in 1999, cautioned us against being too quick to brand his ambitious projections as quixotic. Before the turn of the millennium, Musk championed the internet as the new viable landscape for exchanging goods by way of injecting a large portion of his net worth into a fledging company-then called X.com, now known ubiquitously as PayPal. To many of those in the know at the time, the internet was but a provisional fad.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreThe prolific entrepreneur has rustled media feathers once again with another bold claim to add to the list that perpetually folds industry experts into two camps the optimistically curious and the practical detractors.Musk claims that as early as next year Tesla drivers will be able to sleep behind the wheel of their cars.I think we will be feature complete, full self-driving, this year - meaning the car will be able to find you in a parking lot, pick you up, and take you all the way to your destination without an intervention - this year.I would say I am of certain of that. That is not a question mark, he said in the interview. The naysayersSoup to nuts, statistics and spectators seem to have join forces against Musks lofty prediction.John Alexander, policy director for FCAI, for one, rejects the realization of fully automated vehicles on the horizon, even while conceding the incredible speed at which the science behind them is hurling forward.Even with this rapid development, mass-market introduction of very high or full levels of driving automation systems is unlikely until at least 2030, Alexander said.AutoNation CEO, Mike Jackson went as far as to call Elon Musks confidence on the subject unethical. Our Summer Internship at Simply Hired A True Story

Our Summer Internship at Simply Hired A True StoryOur Summer Internship at Simply Hired A True StoryThis summer we were Brand Ambassadors Interns. It was ur job to spread the word about Simply Hireds resources for college students and new graduates. We really enjoyed sharing resources that as college students we both found valuable. It was great to spend our summer together and with the Simply Hired family. As our internship comes to an end, we were given the opportunity to write about our experience at Simply Hired, what we learned and how to avoid common intern mistakes.7 Lessons We Learned1. How to Work on a TeamYou arent parte of just one team. We found that by learning about the other parts of the company, we were better able to understand our own work as interns. For example, after getting the chance to meet with the engineering team, we were better equipped to answer all the questions career centers had about the inner workings of our job search pages. 2. How to Work with a Fr iendWorking with a friend can be awesome. We were lucky that we worked so well together. From the start, we knew one anothers strengths and weaknesses and we were able to accomplish much more together. While we have heard that working with a friend can be quite tricky, the most important thing we found was how to find a balance between being friends and coworkers. 3. Taking over Social MediaWe were given a really great opportunity to take over the Instagram channel for a day. They let us take the reins and trusted us to create each post on our own. Check us out on the Simply Hired instagram Interntakeover2015 simplytakeover4. Opportunities to growIt turns out weaknesses are not a bad thing. They are opportunities to be better. This summer we used our weaknesses to help us improve our work process and become efficient and successful. Over the summer we learned the best days and times to reach out to people. We found that July is a very popular vacation month, but not to worry, everyo ne will be back on August 3rd. In addition, it is best to avoid contacting people on Monday morning. People are much happier on Friday.5. Being confident with your projects and ideasSimply Hired helped by creating an environment that encouraged us to get involved and to share our work. Working with a friend meant that there was always someone to turn to for encouragement and support. During our time here we had the opportunity to host a company-wide competition. We were able to work on it together, which made presenting it to the entire company a little less scary. 6. Managing stressOur manager gave us some really great tips for managing stress and supported us through it all. Knowing we had someone to turn to when we needed help was a huge factor in our success. We were both given weekly tasks to accomplish to help us reach our overall summer goals. This helped us to keep organized and manage our stress while also staying on track to being successful. 7. The importance of having a strong beraterOur mentor was amazing. She took us under her wing and made sure we learned as much as possible in our time here. We met every single week to discuss our progress, obstacles and best practices. She made this summer about more than just the tasks we were doing by helping us grow as individuals and understand our strengths and weaknesses. 7 Common Simply Intern Mistakes 1. Be AwareSo our ausverkauf team has NERF guns. When there is a full sales team NERF war going on, you have to be aware of your surroundings if you want to make it out alive. And if you plan on storing darts make sure you hide them well or your stash will be compromised.2. Ordering LunchFirst of all, we are really lucky that Simply Hired provides us lunch every day. The catch Order by 10 AM or be hungry. The overwhelming sadness and regret that occurs at 1001 is unexplainable.3. Answering the PhoneKnow how to answer the phone. The first time someone called us back we were so excited but quickly realized that we didnt know how to pick up the phone yet.4. ParkingFor some reason we both decided that there was one parking spot that was superior to the rest. It was never said out loud, but since that day it was our No. 1 goal every morning to get that spot. Because of this, we were always on time for work. 5. Know Where You AreAlways have a map of the conference rooms so that when its time for a meeting you dont look like a yperit kid looking for their mom in the grocery store. No one wants to be THAT intern.6. Keep Work at WorkAs part of our job, we had to make a lot of phone calls. We left our work number so many times that at one point, we accidentally gave out our work number when ordering takeout one weekend.7. Check Before SendingWe learned Gmail had an undo buttonbut not until our last week. So what did we even do this summer? We learned a lot about Simply Hired, a unique company, that is set on helping people find jobs they love. We were able to talk to people from all aspects o f the company and understand how they each contribute to making Simply Hired successful. We participated in meetings, campaigns and brainstorm sessions. We also constructed emails, campaigns, social media posts and even hosted a company competition. As college students ourselves, we know how hard the job search can be. We were really lucky to intern at Simply Hired and hope that everyone else can find an internship they love as well.

Survey links sleep and morning routine to higher earnings

Survey links sleep and morning routine to higher earningsSurvey links sleep and morning routine to higher earningsA cursory glance over historys most prolific minds locates intense morning rituals as a throughline. The decorated author of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou, would wake at 530 am and work till 2 pm (unless the work wasnt going well). The eccentric Dutchman responsible for Starry Night and the interpretive art revolution would rise at 7 am, paint, eat and smoke til 7 pm. Oprah Winfrey, who is perhaps historys most recognizable luminary, takes the dawn with Sufi teachings and meditation, every morning before she moves out into the world.. Hemmingway fancied the idea of starting his day in the cold morning and then warming up as his productivity blossomed into the evening.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreYoure likely just as bored of the anecdotal hero-wors hipping morning regimen reporting as I am, but research continually insists that theres something to it.In Habits That Shape Our Daily Life Looking At Americans Morning Routine, Sleep Judge, surveyed more than 1,000 people, observing an interesting contrast between participants that approached mornings casually and those that adopted strict morning procedures, the authors report, while experts suggest morning rituals can fuel accomplishment, theres no single optimal routine for all individuals. Consistency is essential, but helpful morning habits can vary enormously according to ones preferences and needs. Can your morning routine impact your earnings?Respondents with consistent morning routines were found to earn around $12,500 more than participants without them. Specific first light practices were associated with higher wages than others. People that engaged in physical activities in the morning earned the highest of all the individuals involved in the study, even though only abou t 25% reported doing so. A similar correlation was found in respondents that allowed morning time for meditative efforts. In fact, those that mediated and took some time to journal in the morning garnered more than $50,000 a year on average. There are a lot of potential predictors at play here. For one thing, many high-earners have the kind of jobs that allow for productive mornings. A barista living off of $10 an hour, sharing a bathroom with nine other roommates might have a harder time fitting in a littleTadasana before work than Bill Gates would. Secondly, it might have less to with the act of waking up early to exercise or meditate or what have you specifically, and more to do with the kind of personality traits that foster unterstellung kinds of activities, in a more general sense. The SleepJudge report found that 91% of participants that worked out in the morning described themselves as creative, eighty-five percent regarded themselves as punctual, and 88% considered themselves to be well-organized. A creative, well-organized individual that has a mind for time management is likely to be successful whether or not they start their day with crunches. The only constant worthy of serious consideration is the role quality sleep plays in satisfaction, success, and productivity. The authors over at SleepJudge add,Of course, a vigorous and passionate life depends on truly restorative rest. If the quality of your sleep is undermining your success, a meaningful morning routine will probably only do so much to helpSuccess and satisfactory sleepRecently, researchers from HealthySleepsurveyed nearly 2,500 people to determine exactly how much quality sleep impacts everything from income to mood.Alongside benefits to overall wellness, participants that habitually received a good nights rest earned about 16% more than those that did not every year.Additionally, 29% of good sleepers requested raises in the past year, and 92% of this demographic were satisfied with their d ecision and the wage increase.Based on the data I would guess that quality sleep promotes quality work, granting workers the confidence to request relevant compensation. Seventy-one percent of schwimmbad sleepers felt overwhelmed at work compared to 35% of good sleepers. Seventy-four percent of bad sleepers felt anxious once a week at work compared to 37% of good sleepers. Fifty-five percent of bad sleepers, brought their work stress home with them at least once a week, compared to measly 19% of good sleepers.Good sleepers were half as likely as bad sleepers to be dissatisfied with their paycheck, their collaboration with co-workers, and the tasks they performed on the job. When we looked at workload, the difference between each group was even more substantial, with a very small percentage of good sleepers feeling dissatisfied with the amount of work they performed, the authors of the study summarized in the report.
